Lighting is the single fastest way to change how a home looks and feels, and it’s the work most homeowners put off the longest because it involves running power to places the builder didn’t. CAM Electrical Services installs and repairs every kind of residential lighting throughout Brick Township, Toms River, Point Pleasant, Lakewood, Jackson, and the rest of Ocean and Monmouth County. Recessed cans, chandeliers, pendants, ceiling fans, under-cabinet, exterior, landscape, pool lighting, dimmers, smart lighting, whatever’s on your list, we handle it on a single visit.
Installing new recessed lighting in a finished ceiling is one of the most common requests we get. Kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, basements, hallways. We use modern LED can-less disc lights (the 4-inch or 6-inch thin fixtures that tuck into a small cutout) because they're substantially easier to install in finished ceilings than old-school can fixtures, they produce no heat to speak of, and the LED output matches or exceeds traditional cans. For new construction or gut renovations where ceilings are open, we use standard IC-rated cans with LED inserts.
Dining rooms, foyers, stairwells, and kitchens are where chandeliers and pendants live. We handle everything from ordering the correct box upgrade for heavy fixtures to running new switched power where none exists, to building the correct brace for a fixture the existing ceiling box can't support safely.
Ceiling fan installation, replacement, and repair are a year-round service. We install fan-rated boxes (they're different from standard light boxes and required by code for fan support), run new switched power if needed, add separate fan/light controls, and set up smart fan controls where requested.
Kitchen under-cabinet lighting can be hardwired or plug-in. Hardwired installs involve running low voltage or line voltage to the underside of cabinets and wiring to a dedicated switch or integrating with smart home controls. We do both.
Replacing standard switches with dimmers (Lutron, Leviton, Legrand, Caseta) or smart switches (Lutron Caseta, Kasa, Enbrighten, Shelly). Smart switches especially require neutral wires in the box, which some older Ocean County homes don't have. We check and advise during the estimate.
Porch lights, soffit lighting, motion sensor floodlights, security lights, and exterior sconces. Durable exterior-rated fixtures installed in properly sealed boxes with weather-appropriate wiring. Salt air in Brick, Point Pleasant, and the barrier island communities eats cheap outdoor fixtures fast, we recommend corrosion-resistant finishes for homes within a mile or two of the water.
Path lights, uplights on trees and landscape features, step lights, deck rail lighting, and patio string light installations. Low voltage transformers, proper conduit runs, and weatherproof connections throughout.
Swapping a fixture is a 30-minute job in a well-wired home and a 2-hour job in an older home with underrated wiring or a failing box. We handle both, including bringing the box up to code when it needs it.
A good lighting install isn’t just about the hardware, it’s about where the fixtures go and how they’re controlled.

Questions?
Have Some Questions For Us?
Yes, in most cases. Modern LED can-less disc lights install through a small circular cutout and don't require much more than a wire run through the ceiling cavity. In homes with accessible attics above the ceiling, the wiring is straightforward. In two-story homes where we're installing on a first-floor ceiling, some fishing is required and occasionally a small access hole, which we patch before we leave.
If the existing switch is a standard on/off and you want dimming, you'll need to replace the switch with a dimmer. Most modern LED fixtures require a compatible dimmer (not all LED bulbs and fixtures dim with every dimmer), so we recommend dimmers that match the fixtures for reliable performance.
Some smart switches (Kasa, Wyze, Shelly) work without a dedicated hub, connecting directly to your Wi-Fi. Others (Lutron Caseta, some Philips Hue products) require a small hub that plugs into your router. We install both and explain the trade-offs during the estimate.
We can do close to anything you can describe or show us. The fastest way to a lighting plan you love is sending us the inspiration photos, we'll tell you what's feasible for your home and what adjustments make it work with real construction.
Most rooms take half a day to a full day depending on fixture count and ceiling access. Whole-floor installs (kitchen, living room, dining room, hallway) typically run 1-2 full days.
Yes for the walkthrough at the start and the end. During the actual install you don't have to watch us work, but we recommend being home or reachable by phone in case we have a decision to make about fixture placement or switching.
