Generac Certified Installer — NJ Electrical Contractor License #34EB01136500
Generac Certified Dealer & Installer
CAM Electrical Services is a Generac Certified Installer based in Brick Township, NJ. We install, configure, and service both the Guardian series for residential backup and the Protector series for commercial and large-home applications. Every installation is handled by our licensed electricians, permitted through the local municipality, and inspected to NJ code.
If you’re considering a standby generator for your home or business, we’ll walk you through load calculations, unit sizing, fuel source options, and transfer switch requirements — all before you commit to anything.
Our electricians are fully Generac Certified and when it comes to installing your home standby generator, the distinction matters! As a Generac Certified Installer, we have completed factory training on Generac’s full product line, meeting Generac’s installation standards, and maintaining direct access to Generac’s technical support and warranty programs.
Additionally, your installation is backed by Generac’s 5-year limited warranty — and that warranty is only valid when the unit is installed by a certified dealer or installer such as ourselves! An installation done by a non-certified electrician can void warranty coverage entirely.
A transfer switch is what connects your generator to your home's electrical panel and manages the transition between utility power and generator power. Every standby generator installation requires one.
Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS): Detects a power outage and switches your home to generator power within seconds — no manual intervention. This is the standard configuration for most residential Generac installations. Generac's whole-house ATS models are rated for 200-amp service, which covers most residential panels.
Manual Transfer Switch (MTS): Requires you to physically switch from utility to generator power. Less common for standby installations, but occasionally used for specific commercial applications or as a secondary transfer point.
We install and wire both ATS and MTS configurations and can advise on which setup makes sense for your property. If your current panel requires an upgrade to accommodate the transfer switch, we handle that as part of the generator installation.
Generac Guardian - Residential Standby Generator
The Generac Guardian series is the most widely installed line of home standby generators in the country. These are air-cooled units that run on natural gas or liquid propane, start automatically when the power goes out, and shut down when utility power is restored — no manual intervention required.
The Guardian lineup ranges from 10kW units for essential circuit coverage up to the 26kW model that can back up an entire large home including central air, well pump, and electric range simultaneously.
10kW–14kW Guardian — Covers essential circuits: refrigerator, sump pump, select lighting, and a few outlets. A practical option for smaller homes or homeowners who want basic protection without a full whole-house system. Typical installed cost in this area runs $8,000–$12,000.
18kW–22kW Guardian — The most popular range for mid-size homes in Ocean County. A 22kW unit can handle whole-house backup for most 2,000–3,000 sq ft homes with standard electrical loads. This is the unit we install most frequently in communities like Brick, Toms River, and Wall Township. Typical installed cost: $12,000–$17,000.
26kW Guardian — Generac's largest air-cooled residential unit. Designed for larger homes with high electrical demand — think 3,500+ sq ft homes with multiple HVAC zones, pool equipment, or electric cooking appliances. The 26kW model features a redesigned alternator that delivers significantly more starting power in a smaller footprint than previous liquid-cooled units at comparable output. Typical installed cost: $16,000–$22,000.
All Guardian series generators include Generac's Mobile Link remote monitoring, which lets you check your generator's status from your phone — battery health, run hours, maintenance alerts, and real-time operating status.
Installed costs include the generator, automatic transfer switch, concrete pad, gas or propane connection, electrical wiring, permits, and final inspection. Actual pricing depends on your home's electrical panel capacity, fuel source availability, and site conditions. We provide exact quotes after an on-site evaluation.
Generac Protector - Commercial & Large Home Generators
For homes and businesses that need more than 26kW of backup power — or require three-phase power — the Generac Protector series is the appropriate solution. These are liquid-cooled units ranging from 22kW to 150kW, designed for extended run times and higher electrical loads.
Commercial properties — retail spaces, restaurants, medical offices, and professional buildings where any power interruption means lost revenue or compromised safety systems.
Large residential estates — waterfront properties, multi-unit homes, and properties with significant electrical infrastructure (multiple HVAC systems, pool houses, detached structures on the same service).
Properties without natural gas service — the Protector diesel models are built for locations where LP or NG isn't practical, with extended-run fuel tanks that can provide 2+ days of continuous operation.
The Protector series features Generac's Evolution controller, Quiet-Test self-test mode, and Mobile Link connectivity standard on most models. These units are UL 2200 listed and can be installed as close as 18 inches to a structure per manufacturer specifications, though local code always governs final placement.

Commonly Asked Questions
A fully installed Generac home standby generator in Ocean or Monmouth County typically costs between $8,000 and $22,000 depending on the unit size and installation requirements. A 22kW Guardian — which covers whole-house backup for most mid-size homes — generally runs $12,000–$17,000 installed including the transfer switch, concrete pad, fuel connection, wiring, permits, and inspection.
It depends on what you want backed up. A 10kW–14kW unit handles essential circuits (lights, refrigerator, sump pump). A 22kW covers whole-house backup for most homes under 3,000 sq ft. For larger homes or homes with heavy loads like central AC, electric ranges, or pool equipment, a 26kW Guardian or Protector series unit may be necessary. We determine the right size through an on-site load calculation.
Once permits are approved, most residential Guardian installations take 1–2 days of on-site work. Homes that need a panel upgrade, gas line extension, or additional site preparation may require an extra day. We provide a timeline estimate during your consultation.
Yes. Generac's 5-year limited warranty on Guardian and Protector series generators requires installation by a certified installer or authorized dealer. Installations performed by non-certified electricians may void warranty coverage.
No. Generac generators run on natural gas or liquid propane (LP). If your property doesn't have natural gas service — which is common in parts of Jackson, Manchester, Barnegat, and other rural areas of Ocean County — propane is a reliable alternative. We coordinate propane tank sizing and placement as part of the installation.
